The Oriental Institute - The Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago is a research institution, with a public museum, devoted to the study of the ancient Near East. The Oriental Institute Museum houses a world-renowned collection of artifacts from ancient Syria, Israel, Persia, Anatolia, Egypt, Nubia, and Mesopotamia. The Edgar and Deborah Jannotta Mesopotamian Gallery exhibits some of the finest artifacts of this ancient civilization. Chicago Web Docent - Chicago Web Docent (CWD) is a collaboration among seven Chicago cultural institutions, the Chicago Public Schools, and the University of Chicago to develop curriculum materials utilizing the collections of the museums. The collaboration brings together the experience of Chicago Public School teachers, the curriculum development expertise of the University of Chicago, and the extensive resources available at the museums. CWD curriculum materials have a common "look and feel," and include engaging activities with embedded assessments designed to help students meet the State of Illinois Learning Standards. CWD has worked with the Oriental Institute to develop interactive content that explores the lives of ancient Egyptians. Get a hands-on lesson in how to prepare a mummy. eCUIP, The Digital Library Project - The eCUIP Digital Library Project, an initiative of the Chicago Public Schools | University of Chicago Internet Project, is a collaboration between the University of Chicago and the Chicago Public Schools to provide high-quality digital resources to the K—12 educational community using the content expertise of University of Chicago scholars, the development skills of the University Library’s Digital Library Development Center, and the experience of CPS educators. The digital library Web site includes ancient Egypt materials digitized in collaboration with the OI and the Chicago Media Initiatives Group. |
