Artifact Description

Field Notes from Khafajah

This is a page of field notes from the site of Khafajah, which was excavated by archaeologists from the Oriental Institute during the 1933-1934 season. Notes like this were produced during the excavations themselves, and were written in an effort to help the archaeologists to organize their various finds. This particular page contains information such as the material, size, and origin of the excavated objects. It also includes sketches of the objects as they were found, as well as letters (either "B" or "C") indicating whether they were sent to either Baghdad or Chicago. The first object in the list, marked No. 273, is the plaque with banquet scenes (A12417) that is included in this database. The sketch of the plaque shows what it looked like before it was restored.
