Artifact Description

Stone "Arm"

Houses built at Jarmo, Iraq, had doors that were hung on wooden pivots, which were held in place by a decorated stone "arm" such as this one at the top, and a hollowed-out pivot stone at the bottom. An example of such a door can be seen on the Jarmo House Model included in this database.
