This is an aerial photograph of the site of Jarmo taken in the spring of 1955. It shows the landscape of the surrounding region, as well as the layout of the site itself. A careful inspection of the photograph reveals some of the 151 square test pits dug by the archaeologists as part of their initial survey. The digging of pits such as these helps archaeologists to determine the best places to carry out further excavations.
